Topic review - Problems downloading from Hotfile

I have never had a problem with HF, until today. It was heaven-like, I could copy
text links 12+ at a time and clipboard add them and then go get more. The only thing
I've done different since yesterday is, I declared FF as my default browser.. Is there
any way that would effect FDM's relations with HF?

Here's how to prevent the HTML files (~20k files) downloading instead of the actual media (using FlashGot and FireFox 4b8):

I'm not sure if it's a bug in FDM, FlashGot or maybe even a cookie timeout in hotfile, but to queue unlimited files, all you need to do is start downloading each file until once you see it's downloading correctly (the right file size appears) and then stop the file and let FDM start the next queued file. Go through the entire queue and then press the start all downloads button.

Once a download has begun, I haven't encountered a case where it didn't resume.

Another note, don't select more than 6 files in flashgot at one go or you'll get the HTML file around the 7-8th queued file. Download 6 files, make sure each file is started and stopped and then queue the next 6 downloads through FlashGot. Repeat untill you have all your download started, stopped and queued.

This is the best piece of advice I've found for mass downloads with FDM. Follow these instructions and you'll have no problems downloading from any File Hosting Website; just make you you have enough disc space, time at the begginning to start each download and don't close FDM. :D

Thanks Moshe. That concurs with my observations/experience as well.

Andrzej thanks for that reply. I'm the guest posting above you and I will certainly make those adjustments and see if I have better luck. I'll post back later with an update.

UPDATE: I noticed that the sections maximum number was set at 10. That's about what I've been downloading. I wasn't aware that such a setting existed. I'll increase that and I believe that will sort the issue. The other settings you referenced were well within specification I believe. The pause between connection attempts was already on 5 seconds and the restart if speed too low box was already clear i.e. inactive.

Once I actually do a download (no time at the moment), I'll post again with a follow-up.

Thanks again.

I am also using Flashget with FDM in Firefox on a Hotfile premium account and without fail after I download about 1.2 to 1.4 gb of complete files it will download the rest of the links as 20kb files. I have observed this pattern repeatedly and the only solution is to reselect and requeue the affected files and go again. Still it's annoying and I can't think why it is doing it.

I think that FDM or Hotfile server closes inactive/broken session. Then the server logs out user and cancels all following downloads. When you reselect files, FDM logs in again.
You should observe what will happen if you leave your browser open on the Hotfile site until the last download is finished. You can also try with different settings in FDM menu Options | Settings | Downloads | New Download | Advanced for option "Pause between the connection attempts" (set less number) and for option "Restart if speed is too low" (turn off or set less number).

Here's a workaround for Firefox 4 users:

1. Install the "FlashGot" addon.
2. Setup the addon to have FDM set as the download manager.

That's it, verified working with Firefox 4.0b6 and HotFile Premium

:D

Thanks Moshe that did the trick for me.

this also works great for me, glad to have FDM back, IDM was crap

I am wondering if there is a IE setting somewhere because I have one computer with Win 7 Pro and IE 8 and I can download HF links without an Issue. I have another computer with Win 7 Enterprise and IE 8 but FDM does the 20 kbit downloads only. Maybe my situation is different, but on the computer with the problem, I also cannot drag to the drop box. I can only copy the link into the a new download.

How are your download speeds with hotfile premium vs. a free download?

I have the same exact problem when downloading through Hotfile. First i have to logon to my HF premium account, copy and paste the download link. FDM then directly takes the link and downloads successfully. However i failed to download by directly copying and pasting the HotFile links in FDM. i also provide my HF credentials in FDM but it does not work. I donwload huge files therefore i have to use the import download links option from file menu. It does not work either. I also checked by editing my account settings on HF. To my curiosity i checked with Flashget and it worked correctly but i prefer FDM.

Any solution please?

I have this issues with HOTFILE and before I had the same with RS. I don't use RS anymore.

windows 7 premium.
FDM last stable 3.0 848
flashgot 1.2.6
hotfile premium account
firefox 3.6.12

I use flashgot to add the links into fdm without any problem.
If I add some links or I pause the downloads and start them again. The issue is with some links and some time in the queue, after 2, 3, 5 downloads, suddenly the rest of the queue gets the 20kb file and marks the file as completed. The 20kb file is an html file asking to decide premium or standard download.

If I use Shift-R I get the same file. I have to:

Use flashgot again or
copy the link (ALT-Enter) and paste it into the browser and add it in that way to FMD.

Any suggestions?

Getting the URLs via the hotfile linkchecker seems to work
