You should first check your antivirus/firewall/internet security software settings or talk to your ISP.

Please, report only bugs in latest stable or beta/RC versions.
They are 3.9.0 build 1249 (stable) and 3.9.1 build 1256 (beta) for now.

OK here is the problem.
Every time the mouse cursor touches any Flash content on the page, the browser freezes for some time like 5 or 7 seconds, and i think this is related with the FDM plugin, when i turn it off things get right except that i canot download Flash videos anymore (of corse it's off). The problem is this doesn't happens on Firefox only it's going on Internet Explorer too. Its happening for some time since the firefox 13.0 came out. So since this i couldn't download Videos anymore, it happens on youtube, or any other website that uses flash content, even the ads cause this trouble, i just mouseover anithing flash and the browser freezes, and the download button doesn't apear, i tried uninstalling all and then reinstaling after passing a registry cleaner but the problem persists.

Ok programs details:
FDM: 3.9 build 1249
FDM plugin: 1.5.7.4 then 1.5.7.5
Firefox: 14.0.1
Internet Explorer: 8.0.7600.16385
Antivirus: Panda Global Protection 2011 4.00 It has a firewall but all configs are clear.
Windows: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

I made the update of the FDM plugin via firefox plugin update but the problem persists.
I thank you the atention.

There have been many sacurity and stability issues with Flash Player in Internet Explorer and Firefox, there have been also issues with flash video download in FDM, so I think you should update all the software you are using:
- Windows 7 - Service Pack 1 is a must.
- Internet Explorer - current version for Win7SP1 is IE 9.0.9, 9.0.8112.16241, for IE 8 current version is 8.0.7601.17874/22032 (KB2722913).
- Firefox - current version is 15.0.1, there are no more updates for Firefox 14.x.
- Flash Player plugins for IE and for Firefox- current version is 11.4.402.265, probably all 11.3 versions are unstable or unsecure.
- FDM - current version is 3.9.1 beta build 1268, FDM plugin for Firefox 1.5.7.6. Flash video downloader is an integral part of FDM installer, so you can't fix all problems with flash video using only FDM plugin updates.

I simply downloaded the beta version of FDM and updated my Firefox to the latest version, and all is working just fine. Simple like that.

From time to time I monitor the forums to see progress.

I am currently using v2.5.758.0

Why? Well it is the only stable release to date that does what it promises.

Alex et al. please focus on a stable release in your 3.x branch and you will win over many of the detractors.

Cheers.

This has been a prevalent bug for a while now - I just keep forgetting to mention it.

I have the option to Append comment to the file name when done setting enabled so I can use the comment box for useful information - E.g. When downloading HP SPXXXXX.exe files (drivers for their machines) Instead of just spXXXXX.exe I have
Code:
sp51613 (Essential System Updates).exe
- so I know what the file actually is.

I also have the option Add file extension for uncompleted download enabled, using
Code:
fdm
as the added extension. Finally, I also have Use hidden attribute for uncompleted download enabled.

Here is the problem: If the description (which I usually just copy / paste from the page) contains invalid characters (/, \, etc.) then the download completes but the file does not get renamed appropriately, even though FDM shows the download as having completed successfully.

E.g. - from http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-111705-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4063&product=5048735&sw_lang= the download file is sp52534.exe, which is useless to me. I'd like to know more, so I copy and paste the page title: Ralink 802.11 b/g/n WiFi Adapter and place it in the comment box.

What happens is:

  1. The file gets downloaded
  2. The hidden attribute is removed
  3. the comment is not appended to file name due to invalid chars
  4. The temporary extension for incomplete downloads is not removed

So, the file is no longer hidden, but ends up being, in the case of this example, sp52534.exe.fdm

So, RFF: Can you make it so that the comment box text is validated and any invalid characters are changed to a set valid character (even better would be if the user could choose what character to use as a replacement)? Otherwise anyone accidentally putting invalid characters in the comment box may never realize why the comments don't get appended, and if they do not use the temporary extension setting, it is not that obvious....

By default many windows programs replace with underscore any character not allowed in filenames, so it should be the simplest solution. It seems that FDM already uses this method in some cases.

But it's not the only problem with filenames. It is still not fully solved a problem with names that contain percent encoded characters - sometimes they are converted, sometimes they aren't. This problem will be solved only in FDM 5.x, that should fully support Unicode.

Correction - it *should* replace with underscore - but it does not, as evidenced from my example of what actually happens.
