I sometimes would like to download video files with FDM and watch them before they are finished downloading. (This is something I was able to do with Opera and Firefox's download manager, and with VLC Media Player or KMPlayer.)

Because of this, I would prefer that downloads not be divided into sections at all (use only one section), so the video file downloads from start to finish (no starting in the middle). I currently set Download Properties > Connection > Sections > Maximum Number to '1' per specific file download (please correct me if this is the wrong method of setting this), and I would like to know if there is a way to set it like this for all future downloads.

if you just get the download running and hit the '-' button on your numerical pad it will reduce the number of sections each time until you are left with one.

also under settings - downloads - network you could just set one of the profiles to 'maximum number of connections per one server' to 1

You need to change downloads default settings.

I did this and am now getting 1 section per default download. Thanks.

I'd like to ask if it is possible to set more than 1 connection per one server while still having 1 section per download. Is this possible or is the number of sections directly tied to the number of connections?
