Hi I am new to the forum as I have never had a problem until now. Downloading from usenet is speeded up nicely using FDM but since my laptop blew up, I have been using the house PC. When I download a Zip file, I only get 1 section being used and very slow download speed. Is there a setting I have missed somewhere.
Would be very grateful for any positive suggestions.
Thanks

FDM is NOT designed for downloading from Usenet binary newsgroups. Use some binary newsreader instead.
FDM uses automatic network management for determining available bandwidth. It takes about 1 minute for FDM to determine your connection speed so running download for the first time you should just wait. The bigger download the more accurate FDM is. If you don't like it, go to FDM menu Options | Settings | Downloads | Network, select "Choose..." for connection speed and set all available parameters manually. Then you can go to Download | New downloads option, click "Advanced" button, choose "Connection" tab and set other connection parameters.

You can also read other topics about this FDM feature, use "automatic network" or "automatic speed" as keywords.

Thanks for the reply but I have been using FDM on my laptops for years and always got the maximum speed from unzipped and zipped files. I have set everything I can think of from one download at a time, etc. It uses 20 sections for normal downloading but only 1 on zipped files.

Automatic network management was introduced in FDM 3.8 BETA 5 build 1142. With automatic settings FDM may keep only 1 connection for a very slow server and then use more connections for other downloads from other servers.
Many servers use their own limits for connection number per IP address, especially file hosting services allow only one connection for every anonymous or free account user. It was explained here more than one time, you can find more details in other topics.
FDM does not have any special limit for zip files, but there is a possibility to limit connection number for a website using Site manager.
You should describe more details (name at least your FDM version and the problematic website), if you really want to be helpful.

OK
I am using FDM Version 2 Build 494. I use Easynews web based interface for the use net. My zip files will contain par files for anything between 175mb to 700mb. It never used to restrict to one section as now but as my laptop blew up, I cannot confirm which version of FDM I had installed. I remember setting my parameters for downloading ie one download at a time, 20 sections but don't remember doing anything different for zip.
I apologize for not doing more searching before asking but I am disabled and since the demise of my laptop, I have to sit at my PC, which I cannot do for long, hence the need for speedy answers.

FDM 2 is seriously outdated and cannot be recommended for use even with Windows 98 SE. Easynews service works like other file hosting services - they limit connection number and want users to use their own download manager.
I have no Easynews account so I can't help you more. I think you should better login to Easynews forum and ask there for support.
