I may not have been clear on what I'm trying to do here...

So the current behavior of FDM is to split the files into X chunks (which determines the chunk size based on file size)... In order to use the PowerBoost feature that my ISP gives me, I cannot download more than 4 to 8 megabytes PER connection, otherwise the speed is throttled for the remainder of that connection. There is no way to tell FDM to set the chunk size at 5 megabytes, and download X chunks simultaneously.

This is the feature I need: I want to be able to instruct FDM to download, say, 3 chunks at a time of size 5 megabytes... In fact, I could have only 1 connection at a time and as long as FDM disconnects and re-connects every 5 megabytes, I would get UNLIMITED bandwidth from my ISP due to the PowerBoost feature.

It would be nice if FDM could start download before selecting group or target folder. For example in firefox, I click on download select file target, and if it's small download it is usually already downloaded. Would like something like that implemented in FDM, it would save time, especially with small downloads, when you decide where to put the file it's already being downloaded.

I agree, but I'd like to offer a solution:

All you really want is "start download automatically and automatically open properties window"
The only thing not currently available is automatically opening the properties window

So you can just change your options to start downloads automatically, then simply change the group afterwards.
Changing the group on a finished download moves it to the group folder.
However, you can't change the target folder, or filename, of a running download - and changing the group doesn't move it to the group folder.
So while your download will complete sooner, you would have to waste time after the download is completed to rename/move the file.


So, I'd like to request a "change filename/group when finished" feature, which can be implemented invisibly in the current "filename" box, instead of the popup message "This download is in the progress. Can't change file name", set the file to be renamed on completion. (Technical: Extra background download property "rename to filename", on completion, check field for not null and rename. - So simple i might just do it myself.)

I've looked at a many download managers and I've come to feel that FDM is currently the best however, I feel I won't be able to use it as I only use portable programs and FDM is only portable in theory. It writes its data to the registry (see below).

There is a demand for a good quality download manager (which FDM is) please make it write to ini files and not the registry.

it looks a bit ike torrent - you get bootstrap download.dm file, that is pwnwd by FTM and here we go.

I with FDM could replace that ancient ugly beast by supporting DLM files

hello please add an function for fdm to download from multiple ips if they are avilable!!

this feature is becuase so IP is bandwidth is limited from network administrator and does not remove limitations

I'd like to have another option to automate sorting files in groups:
the file name of the file to be downloaded (with wildcards)

I'm using FDM 3.0

To the dev, in next FDM release, please don't make FDM so-bloated software... I suggest a feature in installation providing the option that be able the users not-to-choose the sw feature that make the software bloated like Upload, Site Explorer, Site Manager, and HTML Spider... (It is better to remove these features at all forever except the target users include HTML dev)

Please, don't make our bloated OS (I mean 'Windows') become more bloated than before!!!

Note : Flash video download feature isn't working !!! The solution of this problem is to make the sw update more frequently.

Yeah, I agree with you, there are many people out there using these features, also FDM already comes in lite version too...
