Editor review of Visual MP3 Splitter & Joiner
As the name of the program suggests, Visual MP3 Splitter & Joiner lets you edit audio files visually. The program provides 2 basic functions – splitting an audio file into smaller ones and combining several audio files into one.
The software displays an audio file visually, as a waveform. This lets you select a part for cutting with a couple of clicks of your mouse without setting the time manually. You can zoom in or out on the waveform to display it more compactly (so that the whole file fitted into the waveform window) or vice versa.
You can also split files in "by parts" mode, dividing it into 2, 3 etc equal parts, into several parts with the same duration or the same filesize.
Visual MP3 Splitter & Joiner has a built-in player so that you could pre-listen to a song you want to edit or listen to a selected part and move borders afterwards, if needed. Though, unfortunately, the player does not have a volume control. The program also displays ID3 tags with descriptive names of tracks (title, artist, album etc) so that you could edit them.
On the whole, the program seems quite user-friendly. It supports drag & drop so you can add files easily dragging and dropping them from Windows Explorer. You can get quick access to the program main functions using shortcut buttons. Besides, the software boasts a multi-lingual interface: the trial version I was using was localized into Russian, in addition to the main English interface. Beautifully designed web site and help file also add to the impression of highly professional software.

Useless as is for high end hardware. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | 2010-07-05 |
| The product is a converter not a waveform editor and not a media player so why must you have a WDM driven soundcard to use the app in vista or win7. As anyone with a professional sound-card can tell you ASIO is the professional standard. In a modern computer with 2 pci slots and a pro level sound card there is often no room for a sound blaster with WDM driver in the box. Some pro users might still want to convert files and playback is not an issue so why make them install a low buget card to rip files. I know the problem is a reliance on microsoft sound support in Vista and Win 7 and as long as Microsoft and Creative are in bed and having fun windows will keep the high end gear in check by making sure only apps like Cuebase, Cakewalk sonar and Adobe Audition and Pro Tools will be able to access the high end ASIO cards but is it nessisary to try to put the whole media production lab in a low budget converter? | |

| Friendly interface Useful features such as editing of tags Worked when another product failed I'll very probably register and pay the reasonable fee. | |
