Text Hide is a free compact steganography tool letting you transmit a text message comparatively safely by hiding it inside an image. Using the same program the recipient can recover the message. Unfortunately, the program is unable to place a file of any type inside any other file. What is does is that it encodes text into a bitmap image. There are other programs on the market whose functionality is much broader, but at least this one is free and performs its job well.
When you place a text inside a picture the very existence of the secret message is unknown and can only be suspected. However, it is hard to suspect an image of carrying a hidden message just by looking at it because the changes in the colors are imperceptible. Nevertheless, you must be aware that if it occurs to someone that there is something more to the image, they will have no difficulty extracting text from the bitmap.
If you need a higher level of security, you can encrypt a text using an encryption key before hiding it. In this case the program will unhide the message but will ask for the encryption key to decipher it.
Text Hide has a user-friendly interface. The only complicated thing seems to be a detailed report that you are given every time you encode or decode a text. |
