Editor review of Cartoon Maker |

Cartoon Maker lets you create simple warp cartoons by distorting (magnifying or shrinking) or twisting a particular image area. There are simple settings that let you select spherical, vertical or horizontal distortion, adjust distortion radius and curve, or choose twist direction.
Although Cartoon Maker lacks basic editing options that some other apps of this sort offer (rotate, crop, etc.) there is the sketch effect that can make your photo look like a pencil drawing. You have to play with the pressure slider to make the sketch readable; however, the sketch effect will not bring impressive results on all photos. Luckily, the program provides step by step undo/ redo options.
Cartoon Maker in fact handles two photo-editing jobs, and you can use any of them separately. That is, you can choose to apply the sketch effect only, leaving out the humorous side.
If you are proud with the design you created you can sign it. The software offers a text input option as well as the pen instrument which you can use for freehand drawing as well.
Unfortunately, the interface is not as convenient as it could be. Tools and settings area and the work area are inexplicably made as two separate blocks. It can also be a surprise that Cartoon Maker automatically resizes images saving them scaled down to the size displayed in the work area.
It is definitely a good idea to let users enjoy cartoon making and sketch making in one simple program, though there are some annoyances that may spoil the fun. |
