Editor review of Piechart Disk |
2008-06-10 |
This freeware utility welcomes users with a very unsophisticated but easy-to-understand interface. There are two options offered: to scan your computer directories or space on an FTP server.
On hitting the Scan Dir button you are prompted to select a directory from the list in a standard tree format. Then you just sit back and wait while the scanning progress is finished. Unfortunately, the utility is not for the impatient, as scanning can take quite some time (up to half an hour, or even more). Besides, your computer may operate slower during scan.
Still, if you are tolerant enough to wait, eventually you will receive a detailed report with a colorful pie-chart, so you can easily see which folders are using the largest space. The report is interactive - you can open and close directories and subdirectories, and the pie-chart will change accordingly.
The program lets you save all reports, but only as a txt file (you don't seem to be able to save graphical reports). Still, you can load a previously saved report into the program, and it will display the chart again.
Although Piechart Disk offers no options to optimize or clean your disk space, at least it lets you know where your disk space has gone. |
