Editor review of Sticky Notes
This program is intended to free your workspace from all those sticky papers that you write notes to yourself on - things like 'Call Bob at 10, emergency' or 'Look at the pink note, important', and similar reminders. Although physical notes tend to blend in with the workspace (making it difficult to notice them in general after some time), their software counterparts have the advantage of being able to attract your attention themselves. Moreover, software notes are a bit more easily disposable.
The 'Sticky Notes' program tries to retain the original look of paper reminders: they all have a nice papery texture and are quite colourful, they also appear on your screen at random angles (unlike most computerised text blocks), gradually turning it into a familiar mess. At the same time, though, the program complements them with some pretty useful features: you can, for instance, set up an alarm for any note, attach some relevant files, or protect it with a password - anything to make sure you will not miss an important task, and nobody else will know about your plans. In addition, the program can be set to receive notes from your pals.
It is not a bed of roses, however. For one thing, the size of the notes cannot be changed at all - and they are quite big, as a matter of fact. So you are either obstructing your workspace with semi-transparent reminders, or those tend to be forgotten behind the plethora of your open windows. Secondly, the difference in randomised notes' colours renders some of them initially unreadable (imagine the default black text written upon dark-blue paper), making you change the font properties quite often. It would also be great if it was possible to write something on the notes by hand, using however simplistic graphics. Still, the program is quite decent as it is.
